At Compare Your Footprint, we focus on helping organisations reduce their carbon emissions rather than relying on offsets. According to the GHG Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard, you cannot subtract carbon offsets or removals from your reported carbon footprint.
Our mission is to support organisations in cutting emissions directly from their operations. That's why our system doesn't allow for the subtraction of offsets. Instead, we recommend starting by measuring your baseline emissions, identifying the highest emission sources, and then making targeted changes in those areas. For example, switching to a 100% renewable energy supplier could be a first step.
From a communication perspective, it's more impactful to say you've reduced emissions by specific actions rather than offsetting them. This approach shows real progress and commitment to sustainability.
