1 passenger travelling 1 km is 1 passenger.km
The trick is to ensure you don't add up all the passengers and multiply it by all the kms travelled as this will massively overestimate. It needs to be done journey by journey, e.g.
7 people travel to NY one way, it's 5,571 km.
This is 7 x 5,571 passenger.km
6 people also travel to Paris, that's 343 km.
This is 6 x 343 passenger.km
The total is 7 x 5,571 + 6 x 343 NOT 13 x 5,914
It's total km x passengers per journey (not the total of all journeys). It's the same logic for tonne.km for freight. The load is taken care of in the modal, you're asked to choose the load and if you don't know it you can put average.
