What is the Greenhouse Gas Protocol?

Modified on Wed, 16 Oct at 11:28 AM

The Greenhouse Gas Protocol is a widely used international framework that provides standards and guidance for measuring and managing greenhouse gas emissions.

Established by the World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), the GHG Protocol helps businesses, governments, and organisations:

  • Measure and report their greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Categorise emissions into Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3.
  • Develop strategies to reduce their carbon footprint and achieve sustainability goals.

It has become the standard for carbon accounting and reporting across industries worldwide, providing transparency and consistency in measuring GHG emissions.
