July 2025 Software Release Note | Compare Your Footprint

We’ve made several important updates to your Compare Your Footprint account. These include new features, enhancements to existing functionality, and updated emissions factors to support your carbon accounting and reporting.

New Features

1. Net-Zero Science-Based Targets Tool (BETA)

You can now create, edit, and test Net-Zero Science-Based Targets (SBTs) for Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions directly within the platform.

What you can do:

  • Set net-zero targets for any scope combination
  • Experiment with base years, target years, and reduction pathways
  • Edit or delete targets as your strategy evolves
  • Set intensity-based targets for high-emission sectors (e.g., cement, iron & steel, power)

This feature adheres to the latest Science Based Targets initiative methodology and is designed to facilitate validation.

The tool is currently in BETA and available to try now. Please do share your feedback with us at support@compareyourfootprint.com.

Note: This feature may incur an additional cost once fully released. We will notify users in advance.

2. Audit-Ready Excel Report

A new downloadable report provides a full audit trail, aligned with ICAEW (Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales) assurance standards. This is available to all users in your current subscription.

Report includes:

  • All data inputs and custom labels
  • Emission factors and sources used
  • Calculated emissions by scope and category
  • Scope 3 category breakdowns
  • Well-to-Tank (WTT) and Transmission & Distribution (T&D) figures
  • Timestamps for data creation and edits

This report supports external assurance and improves transparency in emissions reporting.

Feature Enhancements

1. Factor Transparency

Emissions factor details are now shown directly where you enter or review data.

Where it appears:

  • When entering new data: factor information is shown below the input field
  • When editing or viewing existing data: factor details appear beneath calculated values

This improves traceability and supports internal reviews and audits.

2. User Permissions Update

You can now manage access rights for each user, allowing for more control over who can view, edit, or manage data across your organisation.

New functionality includes:

  • Preset roles (e.g., Organisation Manager, General User)
  • Custom controls for usage data, reports, billing access, and more
  • Supplier access is restricted to their facility only
  • Permissions by group, entity, or portfolio company
  • Access management for external consultants

Access settings are in the ‘Users’ tab in the navigation menu.

Read the full guide to user permissions HERE.

Reporting Improvements

1. GHG Protocol-Aligned Excel Tab

A new tab in your Excel export aligns with the GHG Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard.

Key features:

  • Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions are structured by category
  • Results shown for both market-based and location-based methodologies
  • Separate results for each reporting year

This supports reporting to frameworks such as CDP, Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR), and is aligned with the Science Based Targets initiative.

2. Scope 3 Emissions Detail for Energy Use

The Full Analysis tab in Excel reports now includes additional Scope 3 detail related to electricity and fuel use.

New columns added:

  • Transmission & Distribution (T&D) losses from the grid
  • Well-to-Tank (WTT) upstream emissions for fuel and electricity
  • T&D WTT emissions (upstream emissions from grid losses)

This provides greater transparency and supports full life-cycle analysis of energy use.

Updated Emissions Factors

1. UK Government 2025 GHG Conversion Factors

The UK Government’s 2025 greenhouse gas emissions factors are now integrated into the platform.

Action required:
If your reporting period ends on or after June 30, 2025, and you’ve already entered 2024–25 data, we recommend recalculating your report to apply the updated 2025 factors. Need help doing this? Please contact support@compareyourfootprint.com

Important note on market-based electricity factors:
The UK National Grid has not yet published its 2024–25 final fuel mix. As a result, Compare Your Footprint continues to use 2024 market-based electricity factors for 2025 emissions until new figures are available.

To improve accuracy, you can input supplier-specific factors using the electricity bulk import template. This will ensure accurate Scope 2 calculations, with minor potential variation (estimated under 2–5%) in Scope 3.

We will notify you when the 2025 market-based factors are published and updated in the platform, along with guidance on whether to recalculate affected reports.

If you have questions about any of the updates, please contact support@compareyourfootprint.com.
